The bathroom has come along way in the past one hundred years. Once just a basic tub set in front of the living room fire and filled with buckets of water, the bathing experience is now a luxury in almost every western home. Back then, a "bathroom" was something only the wealthy and privileged could afford to have in their house. It was this trend which lead to the mass production of bathroom products.
The principle of modern bathroom design is that less is more and it means that lesser numbers of items are to be used in the decoration of the space. For bathrooms that are smaller in size, it is good to keep the countertop clear of items and if not, have the least number of items on it. The use of a bathroom light that is white in color, bamboo plants that are considered lucky and some wooden mats are good. The use of hanging sinks in the bathroom in place of pedestal sinks is an alternative that works well in creating more room. Compactness, similarly, in the design elements that are used is important.
Lighting does its part in creating a cozy environment in any room. In daylight, natural lighting has its great appeal. Windows will definitely make any bathroom look fresh and inviting. If privacy is an issue, you can always use blinds, shades, or curtains. However, some prefer to keep it simple by having privacy glass windows installed. This allows sunlight in but prevents neighbors or onlookers from taking a peek. At night time, ambient lighting can provide a cozy feel while you are relaxing in a hot tub and removing the stress after a hard day's work. Aside from the basic fluorescent lighting, you can have wall sconces or make use of the lights of your bathroom contemporary vanity.
